gratitude

when your moon is rising in my sky
— for a moment
the world holds its breath
and the sea's blue heart skips a beat

then the wavelets
carry your light to the bay
the small bay where a yearning
entangles in the dark green of pines
sighing in nocturnal breeze

your rays find the rocky ground
where a flock of blue flowers
sway into tender dreams.

how hope dies

hope does not die
by violence
of a bullet, blade or a word
pushing it over the edge of a cliff

sometimes it fades slowly
like the life of a wasp
tired of flying over and over
against a glass wall.

if i were moon
and watched you
through the window, sleeping

i'd smile and ask a benign wind
to carry from the farthest shore
a rain of cherry petals to your dreams.

sediments

if we became sediments only
long after the waves have calmed

know
that the moon has poured
a thousand nights into crystals
preserving the light
treasured in the depth of the sea.

moonrise

at the hour when dreams awake
the truthful moon is soaring
from the ocean dark and quiet
into an air of amethyst embers

flower and fruit of night
illuming what stays true
in darkened stillness
flowing in wavelets to the shore

may in this hour of contemplation
your eye meet in her face with mine
growing a flower in the sky
beacon for timeless seasons.

i love you
for your eyes, the gates to the ocean
how your waves rush inside me
echoing timelessness

the way you look into a distance
that seems an inside
an inner sky unfolding
with unnamed stars

i love you
for your smile
sunray in the crystal dew of a springtide morn
in a garden of cherry trees blooming

i love you
for the stubborn strength
in your quiet blossoms
rooted deep in the shadow of ancient trees

i love you
for your upright sincerity
in the steadfast path of the moon

i love you
for leading me to the secret realms
in the depth of your sea
where my boat overturned
and sank without drowning

i love you
for being you
for the roots you have taken.

estuary

in the dappled light of the moon
immersed in a susurrant night
he wraps her
into a layer of tenderness
engulfing the sea of her soul in his arms
tracing the electric stream of her spine
meandering through blooming hillocks
to the rushing reeds of the estuary
where sun and moon
melt in the confines of the sky
her breath soaring
to a star-spangled heaven.

summer day

she smells like the golden light
glinting through billows
of a ripe field of wheat

like the dance of the poppies' wings
in the soft hands of the wind
from a sweet childhood memory

like the song of the lark
immersed in cerulean height
filling an unending summer day

like the silvern river of certainty
flowing with evening quietude
to the outskirts of dusk.

dusk

of all hours of the day
mine is the dusk:

the tangerine sinks into quiet
the light fades from the blue

all peaceful slides the day
into the duvet of the night

the moon's round cheek
snuggles against your face.

kindling a fire in the hearth of your fortress
may cast some light through the window
into the dark outside

yet keep your gates shut
the drawbridge raised
and warm yourself inside your mirror walls

i rather prefer the stark light of stars
to a mirage.

(I was always hoping for a connection with you that would go beyond wearing each other in our minds and hearts.)

the flower and the sea

June 07, 2020

at final dusk

will the glow
just fade
into the blue of steel
a transparent forsakenness

will the clouds
be drawn
from the window of this world
displaying pathless deserts
of a starless sky

will your moon
just sink into a nameless sea
a leaden heaviness
from which no wavelet can emerge

.
.
.

i search your light
your flower's scent
your meadow's smooth embrace
timeless lavender moon.

...

what could be easy
about letting go

when the sky was in your hands
and my flower
curled around your moon

when the wall you built
seasons ago

(how many days and weeks and hours waiting in vain)
.
.
.

.

.

.

.

...

stayed transparent
to hopes and dreams
to the melody of heartstrings

what could be easy
about letting go . .  .   .    .

wind

the wind is sweeping through the grass
and with it a sigh comes from the sea
a sigh from deepest blue
the remnant from a storm
shaking the pillars of the earth

the wind is sweeping through the trees
turning the leaves to fluttering gold
in spreading light of afternoon
calling the vine towards the sun
to fill the cup of yearning souls

the wind is sweeping through the grass
curling around a flower blue
raising its head towards the sky
to feel the wind's touch in each moon-filled night.

fluttering

fluttering through your lush gardens
your flute plays the melody of my heart

alighting on a spike of lavender
stirred by a whisper from the sea
i fold my wings toward the sky.

your moon
spreading its golden roots
in this fathomless sea

my love
the dark red poppy flower
dancing gratefully
in the soft caress
of your silent wind.

silver rain

if my heart
should ever burst
the pieces scatter
over sea and earth

i wish that
in a silent night
there floods a rain
of falling stars
right into yours.

in love
we are connected
for eternity

yet i wonder
if you allow
that our eyes will meet
still in this lifetime

to and fro
stop and go
yes and no
swaying — fraying
turning — churning
caring — swearing
leaving — staying?

plucking petals
from a flower
ever growing
will not pull out the roots

yet my rose longs for your gracious moon
pouring light of honey
over soul and skin.
