Todo pasa ...

Todo pasa y todo queda,
pero lo nuestro es pasar,
pasar haciendo caminos,
caminos sobre la mar.

Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino, y nada más;
caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.

Al andar se hace camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante, no hay camino,
sino estelas en la mar.

(Antonio Machado)

I stumbled upon this poem accidentally in a Spanish textbook, as if it wanted to find me ...

It reads like something you would write.

Some roads are trodded again and again ... until we learn ... will we ever learn though?

Bill: I didn't notice that until now ... Maybe you're right : )
Cat: We should try to learn for our entire lifetime.

Es tu hoy desde ayer, cada hoy tuyo

There are yesterdays that feel like yesterdays and yesterdays that are present.

Translation?

Martin (starwatcher521) said...

It translates more or less like that (corrections are welcome):

Everything passes and everything stays,
but ours is to pass,
to pass by making pathways,
pathways across the sea.

Wayfarer, your footsteps
are the way, and nothing more;
Wayfarer, there is no way,
but the one made by walking.

By walking one makes one's way,
and by turning and looking back
one sees the pathway that never
has to be trod again.
Wayfarer, there is no pathway,
but only footsteps in the sea.
