okeanos

resting in the soft hands of our beach
stretching to both ends of the sky
the seagulls' cries have settled with the sun
into a fruit-spilled dream spiced with lavender

our senses reach for ocean's heart
breaking in gentle waves of dusk,
for the tales of seashells' melodies
resounding in your smiling eyes, in mine,
in the softness of our voices
immersing into fading light,
in a sea of life embracing us

skin finds the warmth of skin
fueled by two coalescing flames
bearing the flower blue
drinking from silver light of starry skies.

autumn (V)

to wander silently
in autumn's frigid mist
weaving the auburn sea
in lace of wistfulness

on wings of cranes departs
great summer's fervent glow
into the voice of wind
wafting from isles where gold

and honey flows from lips
of sun's embracing warmth
dyeing a rose in embers
on Lóriens unfading grass.

winged

dawn flows from her eyes
sweetness from her lips
to the ether silk of night
embracing his swan
with amethyst wings
horizon-bound star-dreamer
crestfallen crescent
face turned to her grace.

Note

i do not hope for much
but to be kept inside
a small chest in your forest
hidden at a place that only you know
beside the little well hemmed by blue flowers.

when i close my lids

when i close my lids
i see you
your eye opening a pristine sky over secret isles
a dark ripe with the taste of sunrise

when i close my lids
i feel you pulse inside my veins
moonfruit of the olive tree
high in the branches

(for D.)

This morning I was dreaming of you while asleep for the first time. First I saw you in a group of people while I was passing on a bus. The second time you stayed invisible but I could feel your presence.

Gossamer

Maybe
we meet
each other only
in the soft feathers
the sky weaves into dusk,
in the shimmer of a yearning
that the river carries through
gossamer evenings wearing coats
of misty chill
in our
hearts.

essence

holding you
in the marrow of sunset
where sea, earth and sky merge into light
holding you
in the palm of my heart

(for D.)

maybe

maybe your love
will flow with earthly rivers
into the sea as sediment

but in the dawn of each day
in light of evening's brink
in each star's twinkle shy
in smallest flower growing
out of a stony wall
there will be you, your light and smile.

violet

your eyes speak your heart
my soul is vessel for
in a scent of violet melody
a smile of luscious gardens
welting cherries in bloom
rooting in a diamond sky

moon's diadem
letting its silver beam
flow into source of sea,
of life, into my rose
unfurling in your light,
wilting without.

Note

Some fervent dreams, it seems, are not meant to be fulfilled. Apart from this, the silence hurts the most. This mist reveals no reason, no explication; it is filled with invisible and inaudible waves drifting towards unknown shores.

immersing

to see the night sky through your window
a flock of stars reflecting ocean blue
'cross curtains light as moonlit woven silk
soft-footed breath of cognizance

to feel the spring warming your morning
rising with golden sun an echo of your smile
reverberating in the waking garden
in two larks' flight over the verdant field

to sense the depth of silent oceans
immersed in streams of serene harmony
to be the flower and the light,
well and sun-gleaming river.

watching the sea

i am the swaying grass
combed by the thought of you
watch over cliff of white
to sea and cloud-strewn blue
until your moon draws near
glaring with crimson sails
beneath a crown of stars.

Note

you wanted all
or nothing

and chose nothingness,

the shoreless void,
white streak of haze
between sky and ocean

i asked too much of
what moves between continents

and gained a slice of moonlight

lingering on a water lily
that slowly drifts into the dusk

you are the river
flowing inside me

stream without estuary

yet filling the blue-silver sea
with salt of sunsets.

pathway

sacred wanderings
on dreams winding and soft
through your forest's lush green
where rain is sweet caress
on every leaf bowing beneath
the weight of sunlit drops
in awe of violet skylight
suffusing poppy fields
with ardent shimmer
of seabreeze, seagull cry,
the breath of ocean's salt.

sacred wanderings
over the gold-green fields
in waves of gleaming hillsides,
hedge-lined and oaken-crowned
holding the song of larks
between their stone walls
and looming skies in earthen heart
laden with glow of summer
confined by our souls only.

sacred wanderings
to the incense in the blooming rush
of spraying waterfall,
the source of rainbow paths
soaring to moon and stars,
night ocean's glance,
the secret of your eyes.

Thoughts

Is it possible to really love someone from afar?

Even more, someone whom we have never met in person?
Someone who proves their existence and whom we perceive only by their written and reflected word and by photos?
How much of this is projection, focusing our own desires and dreams on them?
One finds their thoughts, dreams, desires in their words and relates to them, understands them, shares parts of them. Over time they become a part of us. In this way an emotional or spiritual connection is created. We immerse in each other or in their reflection in our ocean. We feel the magic of sharing an inner world. How much is it them, how much ourselves, how much something going beyond ourselves?
We hardly know the circumstances of our lives, we are dark lakes full of secrets to each other. A possibility exists that if we had "only" met in real life nothing would ever have happened between us.
In real life it is always possible to "prove" love by doing something for each other, by being there in everyday or especially difficult situations, by helping each other, by showing attention and affection, by conversations.
In a distant relationship most of this does not exist.

What, after all, is love?

It seems to have the two faces of giving and receiving, the desire to give and to receive. One-sided, unrequited love will probably wilt after a while like an unwatered plant that wants to grow but is unable to do so by its own means only. Probably even the most altruistic forms of love expect something in return, maybe not on behalf of the loved person. One can even feel an inner light growing by emanating it, and that might be sufficient sometimes.

Is it possible to really love someone from afar?

According to the nature of a virtual relationship (in the broad sense) we can only love the visible part, knowing and perceiving the concealed one, being aware that all humans are made of the same matter. In that sense the distance feels close, there is basically no big difference between us, we are connected anyways. Sometimes it appears to me that love would be like an all-connecting ether or energy floating in a neuronal network in which we form nodes.

I think-feel it is possible within its inherent limitations.

cathedral and altar
candle and flame
the breath of starlight
permeating stained glass
a prayer soaring
on heart-filled wings
into the sky, golden and black
earthen benevolence
arolla pine scented
warmness of moon-kissed skin

embraced and entwined
desired and accepted
soul-rooted rose.

If you were gone
beyond a hundred hills
into the misty ruins of past
or mirthful heavens' bliss

your footprints strewn
with fallen blooms of spring
bleached by nine summers' suns
soaked by autumn's black puddles
eroded under ice

my soul would search you still
roam lost blue skies
to glimpse your morning star
wander the endless shoreline between hope and lethe
to hear a whisper from your shell of heart.

blue

i see a small boat drifting
in night's calm shades beneath the pines
suffused by moonlight's touch,
floating in silent rest

steel of dusk
seeps into waters,
ceaselessly flowing,
into the stream
lined by dark guardian trees
tick marks of passing time

out into river, into sea,
up to the distant seam where blue caresses blue,
embrace of an ethereal void,
cut flowers dancing on the waves,
headstones for sailors lost.
