Note

you wanted all
or nothing

and chose nothingness,

the shoreless void,
white streak of haze
between sky and ocean

i asked too much of
what moves between continents

and gained a slice of moonlight

lingering on a water lily
that slowly drifts into the dusk

you are the river
flowing inside me

stream without estuary

yet filling the blue-silver sea
with salt of sunsets.

pathway

sacred wanderings
on dreams winding and soft
through your forest's lush green
where rain is sweet caress
on every leaf bowing beneath
the weight of sunlit drops
in awe of violet skylight
suffusing poppy fields
with ardent shimmer
of seabreeze, seagull cry,
the breath of ocean's salt.

sacred wanderings
over the gold-green fields
in waves of gleaming hillsides,
hedge-lined and oaken-crowned
holding the song of larks
between their stone walls
and looming skies in earthen heart
laden with glow of summer
confined by our souls only.

sacred wanderings
to the incense in the blooming rush
of spraying waterfall,
the source of rainbow paths
soaring to moon and stars,
night ocean's glance,
the secret of your eyes.

Thoughts

Is it possible to really love someone from afar?

Even more, someone whom we have never met in person?
Someone who proves their existence and whom we perceive only by their written and reflected word and by photos?
How much of this is projection, focusing our own desires and dreams on them?
One finds their thoughts, dreams, desires in their words and relates to them, understands them, shares parts of them. Over time they become a part of us. In this way an emotional or spiritual connection is created. We immerse in each other or in their reflection in our ocean. We feel the magic of sharing an inner world. How much is it them, how much ourselves, how much something going beyond ourselves?
We hardly know the circumstances of our lives, we are dark lakes full of secrets to each other. A possibility exists that if we had "only" met in real life nothing would ever have happened between us.
In real life it is always possible to "prove" love by doing something for each other, by being there in everyday or especially difficult situations, by helping each other, by showing attention and affection, by conversations.
In a distant relationship most of this does not exist.

What, after all, is love?

It seems to have the two faces of giving and receiving, the desire to give and to receive. One-sided, unrequited love will probably wilt after a while like an unwatered plant that wants to grow but is unable to do so by its own means only. Probably even the most altruistic forms of love expect something in return, maybe not on behalf of the loved person. One can even feel an inner light growing by emanating it, and that might be sufficient sometimes.

Is it possible to really love someone from afar?

According to the nature of a virtual relationship (in the broad sense) we can only love the visible part, knowing and perceiving the concealed one, being aware that all humans are made of the same matter. In that sense the distance feels close, there is basically no big difference between us, we are connected anyways. Sometimes it appears to me that love would be like an all-connecting ether or energy floating in a neuronal network in which we form nodes.

I think-feel it is possible within its inherent limitations.

cathedral and altar
candle and flame
the breath of starlight
permeating stained glass
a prayer soaring
on heart-filled wings
into the sky, golden and black
earthen benevolence
arolla pine scented
warmness of moon-kissed skin

embraced and entwined
desired and accepted
soul-rooted rose.

If you were gone
beyond a hundred hills
into the misty ruins of past
or mirthful heavens' bliss

your footprints strewn
with fallen blooms of spring
bleached by nine summers' suns
soaked by autumn's black puddles
eroded under ice

my soul would search you still
roam lost blue skies
to glimpse your morning star
wander the endless shoreline between hope and lethe
to hear a whisper from your shell of heart.

blue

i see a small boat drifting
in night's calm shades beneath the pines
suffused by moonlight's touch,
floating in silent rest

steel of dusk
seeps into waters,
ceaselessly flowing,
into the stream
lined by dark guardian trees
tick marks of passing time

out into river, into sea,
up to the distant seam where blue caresses blue,
embrace of an ethereal void,
cut flowers dancing on the waves,
headstones for sailors lost.

black

obsidian pools
with waters deep
down to the roots
of roots of being,
being you

windows to joy
of secret realms
with lotus gardens
filled with the harmony
of a dappled sunlight dream

in your smile,
spreading a jar of gems
over the violet sky,
each one a blessing
seed to my fertile earth

obsidian pools
reaching primordial aquifers
birthing the stars from spray,
the moon as your reflection.

Light

On shortest day in frosty vale
shadows fell long and grey
upon the grass, the sleeping pine
as winter's rugged beard

Bare lay the jagged walls of cots
through which the winds played tag
spare moss grew on the mantelpiece
breathing the smell of ruin

Snow drifted from an ashen sky
a crystal dust of stars
upon the frozen summer dream
dormant in solid flow

Yet - lo! behold! From mountain's height
a light came soft and bright
downward upon this dismal earth
shattering dark and dread

A maiden fair, star-strewn her hair
wielding a glist'ning gem
the flame of West, the Silmaril
as beam from hallowed land

White dragon fled, the dark despaired
the vale found joy of spring
in violet's song, in swaying grass
in glow of friendship's sun.

Note

You can feel entwined with another soul even if — in the worst case — you never look into each other's eyes and never touch physically.
One may call this magic, one may call this madness, one may call this love.

river

dawn of an orchid sky
flowing through dreams of petal rain
cerulean chant of birches
bowing to zephyr wind
subsiding into an inland sea of silver flames
embraced by wistful wildflowers

stream of gentle salt, myrrh and golden domes
giving life to colours sleeping in desert sand
incense of chamomiles in ancient walls
seer of magic, painter of soulscapes
benevolent orchard beneath a truthful constellation

where elanor and niphredil
still find a home.

Autumn's demise

In this enclosed valley
with serene view of sea
filled to the brim
with autumn's golden light

My heart was led to your well
deep as the ocean's blue
source of the brightest flower
in all lands far and wide

Into its depth I gazed
into its purest shine
beheld a river flowing
beneath the moon's reflection

A song rang in the river's rush
spun of a glistening silver yarn
entwined with black from ancient caves
from where the waters fled

Into the meadows mild
into the sunlit bloom
into the flower-scented pool
beneath a dream of shielding leaves.

Night came, and boreal wind approached
clouds hid fair lunar face
swept leaves and flowers towards sea

The pool lies bare beside a naked tree
with view of pewter sea
lit by a slice of moon
upon a raft of leaves.

karmesinrote segel / crimson sails

dein lächeln
öffnet die flügel der möwen
in die weite des himmels
in die sich das herz wölbt
purpurrot und golden

die sterne
zieht es zu dir
horizont deiner gischt
schaumgekrönt ferne gestade küssend

der mond
senkt seine wange
in den arm deiner strahlen
wogende wiege
wahrender wärme

unter den flügeln der möwen
flüstern die wellen von deinem strand
träumen verzauberte gärten
das perlmuttlicht des morgens.

your smile
opens the wings of seagulls
into the extent of sky
wherein the heart arches
purple and golden

the stars
are drawn to you
horizon of your spray
whitecapped kissing distant strands

the moon
lowers her cheek
into the arm of your beams
billowing cradle
of preserving warmth

beneath the wings of seagulls
the waves whisper of your beach
enchanted gardens
dream the pearl light of morning.

sometimes just sleeping
like spring 'neath winter's ground.

lauert der fall

in den kronen
grün der erinnerung
träumt noch etwas sommer

im wind weicht das licht
lauschen die ohren der dämmerung

wohin flogst du,
einsame schwalbe?

autumnal dusk

misty light over the autumn lake
sun of melancholy abiding behind cloth of sky
a reddened leaf in tender touch of water's skin
adrift in soft chime of the piano's flight
into a blurred horizon of snow's whirling flakes

where forest's dreams abide in sight of moon
born from a sea of crimson and lavender
where faeries in the purest white
of angel wings outpour from lily's chalice
water from holy spring,
wine of your love.

expanding into lotus skies

Quiet

in the hour of silence
nature speaks for us:

in the soothing sound of rain
tenderly touching leaves of green

in a dark storm cloud from sea
to which the waves and soul open their sails

in the quiet gleam of the flowering moon.

(Will we ever be more than silence again? ...)

waterfall

this dance of fireflies
over the ancient meadows of the heart
filling the waterfall with glow
of embers that the moon
once gifted to the dusk

just feel the water stream
touching stone by stone
a melody of liquid light
from pond to mind to sea

her lotus' flowering moon
risen from waters dark
vine trailing around the stem
of souls expanding to the sky

be flower, moon and tree
immerse in secrets deep
of nature's sparkling wheel
feel light flooding your leaves.
